Tegemeo Participates at the 5th Edition of the Mau-Egerton University Cross Country, Saturday 10th February 2018

For five consecutive years, Egerton University has organized the Mau-Egerton University Cross Country which is geared towards rehabilitation of the Mau ecosystem and Njoro River. These efforts are aimed at reversing the effects of decades of environmental degradation of natural vegetation in the Mau complex, which has led to decline in water quality and quantity hence compromising local economies and livelihoods.

The University has been calling on stakeholders to partner and raise funds for the rehabilitation efforts. Over the past five years indigenous trees have been planted at the University’s Ngongeri Park. In addition, the University has also been planting trees at Entiyani area, the source of Njoro River, all as part of restoration of the riparian forest vegetation along the middle section on Njoro River.

Seems like there is no stopping, as Egerton has shown its commitment towards the rehabilitation of the Mau Complex through innovative events. This initiative is part of the University’s contribution to implementation of the Kenya Government vision 2030 flagship project on environment.

This year’s cross country, the 5th Edition, was held on 10th February 2018 at the Njoro Campus, Nakuru County.

See you there next year!
