The performance of smallholder producer organizations impacts on the economic and social welfare of the poor in countries such as Kenya. Cooperatives, defined as user-owned, user-controlled and user-benefiting organizations whose objective is to promote the economic interests and general welfare of members in accordance with cooperative values and principles are the most common form of producer organizations in Kenya. This study investigates the success and failure factors of agricultural cooperatives in the country.
